A Family Day Out at Wroxham Barns

Situated in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, Wroxham Barns is a family favourite that we’ve visited many times. Located on Tunstead Road, just a short drive from Norwich, it’s one of those places that keeps drawing us back with its charm, fun activities, and seasonal events. Open daily, it’s perfect for families, couples, or groups looking to make wonderful memories together.

Getting There

We always find Wroxham Barns easy to get to. For those using public transport, the nearest station is Hoveton & Wroxham, which is well connected. The Pink Line and First Bus services are also great options. If you’re driving like us, follow the white tourist signs or pop “Tunstead Road” into your sat nav. It’s a straightforward drive, and there’s plenty of parking available.

Junior Farm Reopens Soon

One of the highlights of Wroxham Barns for us has always been the Junior Farm. We recently learned that it’s reopening on 27th January 2025, and we can’t wait for their Lambing Live event during February half-term. The thought of seeing newborn lambs—and possibly witnessing a live birth—has the kids buzzing with excitement!

When we visited during a previous lambing season, we joined the educational talks from the friendly Lambing Hosts in the Maternity Unit. It was both fascinating and heartwarming to learn about the care given to the animals. The highlight, of course, was the chance to bottle-feed the calves—an experience my children still talk about to this day.

Tickets & Prices

The entry fee is incredibly affordable: just £5.00 per person, with children under 2 going free. It’s fantastic value considering how much there is to see and do.

Hands-On Fun and Seasonal Activities

Junior Farm is always the first stop for us when we arrive. My youngest loves getting up close with the friendly animals, while my older two enjoy joining in with the hands-on activities. Lamb feeding is always a highlight, but the seasonal events—like potato picking in the summer and the Pumpkin Festival in the autumn—make every visit feel special.

The play area is another huge hit. Watching the kids zoom around on go-karts or giggle their way through the jumping frogs brings so much joy. Even my husband gets competitive during a round of crazy golf, which has become a bit of a family tradition now!

For older kids (and big kids like us adults), the water wars and sand play zones are an absolute must. These seasonal activities add an extra layer of fun to school holidays and half-term breaks.

Shopping and Craft Studios

I have to admit, I always look forward to browsing the Craft Studios at Wroxham Barns. From handmade soaps and wooden crafts to children’s toys and unique gallery gifts, there’s something for everyone. My husband jokes that I spend more time shopping than I do at the farm, but honestly, the products here make the perfect souvenirs—or gifts if you’re feeling generous.

Dining Delights

When it’s time to refuel, the Courtyard Café and Farmyard Café never disappoint. During our last visit, we indulged in some hearty homemade meals and couldn’t resist the cakes on display. Their afternoon tea is a treat I highly recommend if you want to round off your day in style.

Seasonal Events to look forward to

Wroxham Barns is well-known for its seasonal events, and we’ve had the pleasure of experiencing a few over the years. From Lambing Live in the spring to the Summer Holiday festivals, there’s always something to enjoy. Keep an eye on their website for the latest updates, as they often host themed festivals and even Saturday night specials.

Explore the Norfolk Broads

Norfolk Broads

If you have time, make sure to explore the beautiful Norfolk Broads while you’re in the area. Boat trips, scenic walks, and other nearby attractions complement a day at Wroxham Barns perfectly. On our last visit, we combined the two, starting with a morning at the Barns and ending with a peaceful boat ride—a perfect way to wind down.

Conclusion

Every visit to Wroxham Barns has been a wonderful mix of fun, learning, and family bonding. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, there’s always something new to discover. The affordable pricing, engaging activities, and welcoming atmosphere make it a must-visit destination for families like ours.

If you’re looking for a day out filled with laughter, learning, and memories that will last a lifetime, I can’t recommend Wroxham Barns enough. We’ll certainly be back again soon—especially for Lambing Live this February!
